Mt. St. Helens

Hello Friends,
What a nice day weekend it was in my neck of the woods.  We decided to drive a little further than normal for our weekend adventure.

We hiked near Mt. St. Helens; it’s been a while since the 1980 eruption so we figured it would be safe (there are some great videos of the eruption on YouTube).  My roommate remembers it although he was just a kit at the time but it was a big deal in Oregon and Washington.  Was it a big deal where you lived?

Enough history, let’s hike!  The trail looks beary peaceful hear.  It’s almost too easy….

Here is a friendly looking animal.  Is he a chipmunk or squirrel?

What?  These rocks are huge!  I will have to hunker myself down in the backpack to travel over these rocks safely.  An hour of climbing and walking over these rocks is beary difficult.  Luckily through my positive reinforcing statements my roommates were able to handle the task with flying colors.

Through my expert leadership and motivation my roommates reached their destination, Dryer Creek Meadows.  As you can see the flowers are gone but Mt. St. Helens decided to show up today.

Hmm, I wonder if this is the path some of the mud, rocks, and trees took from the 1980 eruption?
Now, one of my favorite times…lunch.  I took this picture for Jerry and Ben since I know how much they like snacks and food.  My roommate’s lunch (and consequently mine as well) includes string cheese, a pb and j sandwich, a small bag of chips (on our trip to Canada I really started enjoying the “All Dressed” chips.  We don’t have those in the USA), and some cherry tomatoes from our garden.  Emergency clif bar in case my roommates need extra energy getting over the rocks again.

Should I add any more goodies to my roommates lunch bag?

  1. Great hike little fox! I wasn't around for Mt. St. Helen's but Mama remembers it well. She worked with a geologist once who was caught in the fringes of the blast - she had stories to tell!
Your snack pack looks good although I don't see any chocolate there... Perhaps a Nutella sandwich next time?

    1. I have never tried nutella. Sounds good especially since the hazelnut is oregon's state nut.

  2. Great photos. Looks like a fun hike. We do agree, however, that seKretaries don't always pack enough snacks; travel-sized versions of Nutella would be beary good. Do you have them where you live? We do, so we can always send you a few.

  3. We heard the hazelnut harvest in Turkey was bad this year, and so there will either be a shortage of Nutella or it will be more expensive this year. EEEK.

  4. Yes, the Hazelnut shortage is bad for Turkey but supposed to be a boon for Oregon Hazelnut growers. Hopefully, they will keep nutella prices in check or people might have to go to the "black market" to get their supply.
