Bend day 2 and 3

Hiya Gang.
LF, NB and CB are enjoying a few more days in Bend.  Here we are on a hike Cocoa suggested, it's called Tumalo Falls from Skyliners trail head.
You definately got a good view of Tumalo Creek as you worked your way up to the falls.
Being that it was spring the falls were going like crazy.
Next up was Navy's hike, it was along Peterson Ridge and West Trails.  The views were amazing.
Navy doesn't take a bad picture.
So many mountains were out today.
The roommates forgot to bring lunch on this hike.  Can you believe it?
Luckily, us stuffies found a pretty good city park with some great views.

Bend Adventure for a fox and mice

Hiya Gang,
Little Fox and gang deciding to explore Bend a charming city known for its hiking  and large number of breweries per capita.
First hike of the trip is to the Oregon Badlands with the hope of finding petroglyphs (they are here but we had no luck).  Along the way the wildflowers were out on our way to Badlands Rock.

A few early desert wildflowers - Larkspur, Wallflowers and some sort of desert parsley

Made it to the top of Badlands Rock.  Do you see the Cascade Range mountains in the background?
Onward, LF heard that this area used to be an old homestead and there is apparently proof of the homestead.
It's important for LF's grade in Archeology 304 that he finds the homestead since he could not find the petroglyphs.

This looks like an old cistern.  Yep LF's portable carbon dating kit dates the rockwork to about the 1860s).
Time to go celebrate at Spider City Brewing.  Today was a fundraiser for a Great Pyrenees Rescue and Navy was very intrigued by the animals (hint hoomans in Canada Navy wants one).  Cocoa and I had a beer or two or threee.

Bear in charge blog 9. On the road again.

Hi Gang!  Baxter here.  I am on the way to the central Oregon badlands.  Some nice mountains in the background.
Glad I made it to the wilderness.  After last nights drinking I need little wilderness therapy.
Onward.
Lots of juniper out here.  I think the juniper berry is used in gin production.  I better consult Drunk Fox.
More mountains in the background.
So many trails to explore.  I am off to flatiron rock.  Maybe I can get a flatiron steak at the rock?
The mountains look good.
Extreme zoom sure helps the picture.

A great hike.  I think I need some food.  So many choices.
I bet this guy knows a good spot to eat.
Yum, a smokehouse.  Smoked meat.
Wow, what a spread for a little bear.
To top off a great weekend day and trip is fresh ice cream.  This looks like a great place.

Bear still in charge. Blog 8

Hello Blog World,
Baxter here at the helm of the blog this week.  On my list of things to do while Little Fox was gone included many things:  Hike, day trips, eat ice cream, and take mini vacations.  Looks like another weekend trip has been planned.

This trip I am off to Bend, Oregon.  A trendy (i.e. expensive) mountain town in Central Oregon.  Bend was named after the bend in the Deschutes (French, right Ben?) River that went through the area.  It's had a lively history.  During WWII the air force trained here.  It was cattle raising country for many many years, it's the Oregon High Desert so the temperatures are really hot or cold and now it's pretty much a retirement/ski/tourist town. I'm hanging out at the McMenamins Old St. Francis School, my lodging for the night.  In the meantime I figured I would get a drink.
Ah this is better.  A nice porter beer and a hard apple cider on the side.  This ought to be enough alcohol for one bear.
I need a break.  All this drinking is tiring this little bear out.  As I was exploring town I came across this cool bird.  I like his scarf, don't you?
Ahh.  Some food.  I am enjoying an Australian meat pie and a beer for dinner.  Yum.  Meat, cheese, egg and pie crust.  It's almost like having dessert for dinner.
Finally, time to relax back at the room.  A nice big bottle of water is needed and some hot coffee to keep this bear going.
Rumor has it that there are some adventures planned for tomorrow.  Do you think a stop to an ice cream parlor might be in the plans?  Stay tuned...

Exploring the badlands on a good day.

Good Morning World.  It's early and I am fortifying myself before my adventure in Bend's Badlands today.
A few miles out of town I ended up at the Bend Badlands.
My goal is flatiron rock.   So that badlands are actually pretty cool.  There is lots of open space, good trails,  and lots of old Juniper trees to explore.  Back in the day, this land was a large lake.
Lot's of dusty trails and sandy soil.  Perfect for a little fox's paws.
There were lots of old trees in the badlands.
I think I am approaching the flatiron rock.
I  made it to the top!
The mountains are out in full force today.  If the sky was bluer I bet the mountains would be more visible.

Some cool rock formations on flatiron rock as well.
It was an early morning adventure, so no snacks. Don't worry viewers this Little Fox knows how to convince his roommates to find a good place for lunch.
