Back to Business, Little Fox Archaeologist 2.

Hiya Friends.
Little Fox, Archaeologist back at the quarry working on cataloging and recording items for the museum.

Found this dino bone.  Not bad eh?
In the archaeology community Dino 4344 is beary special.  Since I am not a licensed archaeologist the secret of Dino 4344 has not been shared with me.  It's an honor to be in the presence of this Dino though.
This is a good sample.  It should make the museum happy with my abilities.
More samples.
Oh my I have my work cut out for me.
I certainly have lots of work ahead of me.  Before I get going I better get some food.  This place looks interesting.  Country Grub, Local Beef and Great Fries. I'm in.
This critter is really into his cheeseburger.  He seems like my kind of guy.

Christmas mail call from Ajdin's crew.

Howdy Gang.  Little Fox here.  I just checked my mailbox and saw this letter from my pal Ajdin.  I don't even need to look at the return address as Ajdin has cool stamps with his photo on it.
I know that Ajdin has fired his sekrebeary but I must say that whoever addresses his mail has beary good penmanship.  Makes sense, as I know that Ajdin has high standards regarding his sekreabeary staff.
Ajdin and his crew (Ms. Feathers, Uncle Tibbs, Parker, and Oogie) wanted to wish me and my crew (including Sequoia) a happy Christmas with lots of new adventures in 2020.

As in most stuffy houses the holiday stuffies are out in full force.  The holiday stuffies all agree that Ajdin's card is awesome!
Sequoia was so happy that he got mentioned in the card that he insisted that his picture get posted.

Thanks team Ajdin.

Little Fox, Archaeologist 1.

Hello archaeological and blog world.
Little Fox here.  On my way from Colorado I received an important message from the museum.  They need some help tracking, excavating, and locating dinosaur remains.  Dinosaurs is one of my archaeological specialties so here I am.

I followed my GPS to the location of the dig that the museum needs help with.  I am at the Dinosaur National Monument.  Dinosaur National Monument has sites in Utah and Colorado.  Colorado has more scenery (Green River runs through it, lots more camping etc) and the Utah side has the dinosaur bones.  My work for the museum is on the Utah side.
It's a hot day today (post dated blog you know).  Temps are in the low 90s (32c for my international friends).  This archaeologist can handle it.
For some reason, I don't think this is the dinosaur dig they want my archaeological expertise at.

Dinosaur National Monument is here because they found a ton of dinosaur bones.  This story starts back in 1909 (okay, I know dinosaurs are much older than 1909)  when paleontologist Earl Douglass found the quarry where the bones were.  He was  collecting dinosaur bones for the Carnegie Museum.  Douglass' crews excavated thousands of bones and sent them to Carnegie Museum for display.

1915 rolls around and Woodrow Wilson steps in and declares the quarry area where Douglass was excavating a National Monument so no more bones were allowed to be sent to the Carnegie

Museum.  Hmm, sounds like the Carnegie might be a good place for this fox to visit.

I am not sure why they called me here.  Looks like these remains are pretty well preserved.
It's a nice museum.  Still confused why I am here.

I met with a staff member and they told me they needed my skills at the quarry.  It was a short hike to the quarry.  No challenge for this fox.  Along the hike I came across this sign.  Escalante was the first European who documented the area that is known at the Unitas Basin (Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Northern Arizona).  One of the cool things about Escalante's journal is that it's surprisingly accurate for the time in the description of the Native American's they met, the land, and the geology.
After a short hike I made it to the quarry building.

Wait, I could have driven up here.  Why did I hike this trail in the heat.  Perhaps my roommate didn't listen too well to the staff at the visitor's center or perhaps my roommate wanted me to get a paws on feel of the monument by hiking.
Okay, this is pretty cool.  There is literally a wall of bones inside.  This is the same quarry that Douglass and his team excavated for Carnegie was back in 1909.
Hard to see, but there are lots of dino bones here for my team (ie me and my roommate) to document for the museum.
Time for this archaeologist to get to work.

Mail Call (round 2).

I interupt my Colorado posts to bring you some important mail/Christmas card information.

This is the best time of the year.  I get so much stuffie mail during December my sekrebeary really has to keep up with the blog.  It's good, keeps them on their toes and if they do well they may earn a Christmas bonus (key word...."may").

A few of my friends decided to hang out with me as I examined my mail.  On the right is my dear friend Hedgehog. Hedgehog likes to think he is the Easter Bunny (hence the ears).  I don't judge.  He's a loyal pal.  On the left if another fox that has joined my crew.  He won't tell me his name (I don't think he knows what it is either) but he's cool, friendly, and loves chicken.  Three things I look for in a pal.

Droopy and his pals sent me a card with a beary cute dog.  Thanks Droopy, Angus, Patch, Spunky and the Bark Knight (oh, wait perhaps I should have kept that last one to myself).  Thank you team Droopy.
Next up is a card from a pair of dessert loving bears in the Midwest.  Jerry and Ben sent a beary nice card.  It's got two bears (just like J and B) carrying a tree.  I hope Jerry and Ben have lots of hot chocolate in the pantry as I looked at the weather for their winter home and it's going to be cold for the next couple days.  Thank you team Jerry and Ben.
Until next time....LF.

Colorado adventure #4

Little Fox hanging out in Leadville Colorado. Elevation in town is 10,151 feet.  After a little research I realized some of the superfund site actually is IN town.  Guess I better have some beer instead of water for my beverage tonight.  You know on reflection I should really stop hiring drunk fox as my travel agent.
Leadville is really a neat town.  A cool main street.  A historic mining district.  Actually I am staying at a B&B that was built in 1890.  It's restored but it's cool to be in this old Victorian mansion.
The buildings are old but are in really good shape.  The landscaping is amazing.
I also met some friends.
But enough about Leadville.  I am off to hike in the Mount Massive area.  Mount Massive is really big and it's the second tallest mountain in Colorado.
Wildflowers are out.
This meadow is so much better in person than pictures.
This fox needs to move to Colorado.
So much to see.
The lake is my destination.
One of the coolest things about this hike is that it is about 20 minutes from my Victorian Mansion B&B so now that I am done hiking I can explore town in even more depth.
There is an old opera house that offers tours (with tour guides in costume none the less).  Seems perfect for me (except of course they don't allow pictures inside) but trust me the opera house was amazing.
Perhaps it's time for dinner.  This place looks cool and it was recommended by Drunk Fox.

What? They only serve food during lunch? The bar is open all night though.  You would think that I would have learned my lesson about hiring Drunk Fox as my travel agent.

Mail Call!

Mail Call!

Greetings everyone.

Little Fox here hanging out with my buddies waiting for our sekrebeary to unwrap the homemade banana bread.  Us stuffies have so much patience.

While we were waiting for the opening of the banana bread my roommates brought us my mail
Do you see the stamp?  It's from Sandy.  I bet it's a Christmas card.
It it!  Sandy wishes me a great holiday season with lots of chicken and/or turkey (why not both???).
Thanks Sandy!

Colorado Adventure 3.

Little Fox here.  You are probably wondering why there are no hiking blogs on this trip to Colorado, well blog pals that's about to change.

Perhaps you can guess where I am going?  Yep, Linkins Lake.  I am very near the Continental Divide.  The weather is great.  The mountains are beautiful and the elevation change isn't bothering this fox at all (elevation is about 10,500 ft. or so).
Not a bad view from the trail.
A little snow still left on the hills.  Not bad for August (yep, this blog is a tad post dated).
Whatever the blue flower is I want them in my garden.
I am getting close to the lake.  Looks nice doesn't it?
Whew. Hiking is hard work. I might sit down and enjoy the view for a few minutes.
Time for lunch.
These chips are really really good.
This probably isn't the safest place in the world to take a nap but this fox is tired.
A nice refreshing stream along the way.  I would like to explore more but I have a destination to get to.  It's over Independence Pass, then off to Leadville Colorado (the two mile high city aka the highest city in the United States and one heck of a superfund cleanup site in the 1980s).
Ahhh. Time for bed.  This fox needs some sleep.  I hope this bed is big enough for me.
