Drinking Buddies

 Drunk Fox told me that when he was partying hard in the 70s Key West was the place to be. I took a few of his recommendations on places to check out and they have stood the test of time.  

First up is Captain Tony's.  Captain Tony's Saloon in Key West is a historic bar with a laid-back, quirky vibe. Jimmy Buffett played here for drinks and tips before becoming famous, soaking in the island atmosphere that inspired much of his music.

While I was drinking I met a cool potato from the East Coast.  Her humans must know how to party as they were on their 6th bar that day (yes, Captain Tony's was the 6th).  

Potato and I hung out for a while (he is a newer stuffy) but has his own Instagram as well.

A few more drinks later and it's a miracle that I didn't fall over.

After Captain Tony's, it was time to go to the Green Parrot.   The Green Parrot Bar in Key West, founded in 1890, is one of the island’s oldest and most iconic dive bars. Known for its lively atmosphere and welcoming crowd, it’s been a favorite spot for locals.  

 Over the years, it has hosted countless musicians and artists, becoming a key stop on the Key West music scene. Its eclectic décor and strong drinks make it a timeless part of the island’s vibrant nightlife.

Don't worry readers there was plenty of drinking in Marathon and Miami.

Key West

 Who is the guy in my photo?  Ugh, tourists. I made it to Key West and yep I'm in the southernmost point in the continental US. 

Off to see the cats at the Hemingway house.  Ernest Hemingway had a house in Key West because he fell in love with the island’s laid-back lifestyle and found it an inspiring place to write (and drink). The house became home to many cats, including one with extra toes given to him by a ship’s captain. Today, the cats—many with extra toes—are famous for being descendants of Hemingway’s original feline and are a unique feature of the property.

Hemingway didn't have much money but his wife (at the time) had a rich uncle who funded the restoration of the house (including adding a swimming pool).

This the room where he wrote some of his famous works including To Have and Have Not, Snows of Kilimanjaro and a little bit of For Whom the Bell Tolls. 

More cats, so awesome.  These cats are federally protected. The gate to the house is open and the cats are free to go but the guide said they never leave.

There are a ton of chickens in Key West and they are protected by the city. Why you ask? There are so many in Key West because they are descendants of birds brought over by early settlers for food and cockfighting. When cockfighting was outlawed and people no longer needed them for food, many chickens were released and began roaming freely. With the island’s warm climate and lack of natural predators, the chicken population continued to grow and is now a well-known part of Key West’s charm.

Drinking is a big thing in Key West (Drunk Fox used to hang out here in the 70s and he could tell you stories).  I went to a few bars, this is the Green Parrot. Good drinks, loud music. 

The Key West butterfly convservatory was amazing.  Why are there no pictures of butterflies with me?  Well, have you tried to take a photo of a stuffy and a butterfly?  Very challenging.  Flamingos were much easier to take a photo with.

There's more to come in Key West but this little fox heard the sunsets are amazing at Mallory Square.  The universe wasn't cooperating for a sunset this time but got some nice pictures none-the-less

Mail Call

 Hiya Gang,

Kermit and Drunk Fox here filling in for Little Fox, Navy and Cocoa.  Those three are out adventuring again, that's okay since we in charge of the mail.  Don't worry, Drunk Fox is drinking sparkling water.....Kermit is not. 

Bzz, do you see this cool card? It's from Jerry and Ben back in the Midwest.  J&B wanted to know if LF had any hiking adventures planned (you bet), and we learned that Ben wants to make homemade ice cream.  I'm looking forward to that post.

Droopy and crew sent an awesome birthday card for LF.  Of course, it's not even close to his birthday (it's in Jan).  Clearly the roommates are severely behind on the mail.   Droopy wins the award for the most crafty human, thanks for the homemade card.

Finally, a few cards from Sandy.  One is an Oregon Birthday Card (ok, a Valentines day card but V-day and Oregon's birthday do share the same day). Sandy wanted to say hi to his friends visiting LF (Navy and Cocoa).

The other card from Sandy is a birthday card.  Sandy hoped that I got lots of treats....err the humans dropped the ball big time this year and there were NO special treats or adventures or nothing.

The roommates promise to do better wit the mail - we'll see how the year progresses.

Birthday Dinner for the Foxes

 Hiya, 

It's been a while since this Fox got back on his blog.  However, the birthday events this weekend were super important.

I wanted to make a special meal for my pal (and fellow birthday fox) Drunk Fox. 

Before we get cooking a little wine for me.

Kermit never wants to be left out of the action so he joined us too.

Now for the main course:  Salmon.

Tonight's meal is all about Drunk Fox.  He wanted Salmon Fried Rice and being that it's his birthday too I can only oblige. 

After a little bit of time in the kitchen dinner is served.  Drunk Fox is being polite by using a fork, I'm digging right in.

Kermit wanted to get something special for the night so he got us both a piece of chocolate cake to share.

"Sure Kermit we can split this three ways."

Alaska 6 - Welcome to Seward

 I met some cool stuffies at a B and B in Seward, AK.  They were super helpful in pointing me in the direction of many different things to do. 

The first suggestion was to visit the murals around town.  This one really called out to me. 

Seward was the start of the Iditarod Trail (not the race).  The trail was similar to the Pony Express where mushers would travel up and down Alaska delivering mail and goods in the winter.  Seward is mile 0. 

Besides the Iditarod start there are also a lot of glaciers in the area. 

Everyone was so friendly in Seward. 

Just outside of Seward is Kenai Fjords National Park.  

The most popular place to visit in the park is Exit Glacier.  You can't walk on the glacier but it's an easy walk to the viewing platform.

Voila!  Exit Glacier.  Yep, you can probably see how it's receding. 

The walk up to the glacier has a variety of signs with different years on them.  The years represent the location of where the glacier was.  

The next day I decided to book a boat tour to see more glaciers.  The weather is pretty good for Seward today.  I'm patiently waiting my turn to get onto the boat.

The crew was able to get some of the ice floating by and they offered to make margaritas with that ice.  

If Drunk Fox was still actively drinking he would not be impressed with the amount of alcohol in the margarita but for a little fox like me it was perfect!

Onward to my next destination. 

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Kermit and Drunk Fox here to wish everyone a happy St. Patrick's Day.   Little Fox is out scouting his Spring Hikes so Drunk Fox and I are here to run the blog today.

Drunk Fox wanted to be part of the blog this week since St. Patrick's Day is known for a variety of things including some drinking.  I wanted to be included because I'm a  green frog.

Let's check out this card from Sandy.  Oh, this is awesome!  A St. Patrick's Day card with a fox, this is the BEST card ever!!!!!  It seems that Sandy and Cocoa are getting ready for Spring (we are too).  Hopefully, they have some fun adventures planned for this Spring.

Delayed Mail.....

 Hiya Gang,

Little and Drunk Fox here.  Just catching up on some mail.  

First up is a birthday card from Sandy and Cocoa.  They wished me a happy birthday (my birthday is in January so yep this post is really late).  

Thanks for the card Sandy and Cocoa.  As to your question about my age, well I'm not really sure (no records were kept as a kit)  and my only relative is Drunk Fox and he is not the most reliable uncle when it comes to things like this.

Jerry and Ben also sent a nice email message wishing me a happy birthday with a big adventure and a grand dessert to enjoy.  Thanks J and B.

J & B have been busy bears with their mail and my crew also received a cool valentine's day card.
